Ceratopteris richardii is not one of our local species, but it is a model fern that has been in use for teaching and research for many years (C-Fern). The haploid gametophyte stage of this plant's life cycle is very fast (from spore to sexual maturity in about 12 days). Rapid development and ease of manipulation has already made this organism a workhorse for investigating questions in biology in AMOEBA.
